Tom had many achievements as a historian. * While living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he worked as a researcher for notable Canadian historian Margaret McLeod, researching the Metis period of Manitoba's past. He worked on McLeod's books "Cuthbert Grant" and "Folk songs of Old Manitoba". * He wrote two radio dramas, for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), on history themes: "The Island of Quadra and Vancouver" and "Tekhionwake". In the 1970s he became an active member of the Innisfil Historical Society, and remained actively involved until the early 1990s. His accomplishments during this period include: * Researched and wrote the book "Ice Industry at Belle Ewart"; * Production editor/manager for "Skunks and Scholars", a collection of memories from Innisfil residents on their childhood in the township before 1920. Tom's role included all photographic reproductions for the work, liaison with printers, marketing and promotion; * Production manager for "The Grange at Knock", and "Treasured Recipes from Innisfil's Past"; * Researched and wrote "People Helping People", the history of the Innisfil Credit Union; * Researched and photographed "Home and Homestead", an inventory of pre-1930 buildings in rural Simcoe County. This award-winning project involved hundreds of color slides and numerous presentations as slide shows and exhibits thoughout the County. * President of the Innisfil Historical Society for two years; * Founder of the Innisfil Historical Document Center, an indexed archive of photographic copies of historical photographs and documents pertaining to the history of Innisfil Township. He successfully obtained government grants to initiate the project, designed the structure of the collection, trained staff and volunteers, was chief copy photographer for many years, and was involved in having the collection placed online. * Past executive member of the Simcoe County Historical Association.
